Ebola Fails To Stop The Annual Pyongyang Marathon
CHENGDU - MAY 29: North Korean Pyongyang folk dancers perform in the 3rd International Festival of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.May 29, 20011 in Chengdu, China.

In April, the annual Pyongyang Marathon took place with runners from around the world racing along the capital’s broad boulevards and ending in a packed stadium of well-wishers and onlookers. North Koreans are traditionally shy with foreigners, but a recent order from the Dear Leader himself to boost the number of foreign tourists into the country may be encouraging them to be (a bit) more welcoming.  The country has been on lockdown for several months due to an Ebola quarantine, and it was doubtful whether the marathon would be open to foreigners at all.  In the end, Kim Jong Un apparently decided to let the race proceed.
