Uber in Colombia: The Busiest Designated Driver

Last year Uber completed a funding round that valued the company at over $41.7 billion – a remarkable achievement for a company just over six years old.  The company is now moving aggressively into emerging markets, where its cut-throat culture has not always been well-received.  Lately Uber has taken pains to recognize local cultural issues and to adopt its market entry strategy accordingly. In Colombia, where drunk driving is an endmic problem, Uber is winning accolades with the rollout of ‘Uber Angel’, a service where Uber dispatches a (sober) driver to take the inebriated client home in his/her own car for a flat fee of US$ 4.50.
