With an agreement with Egypt and Sudan in hand, work moves forward on Ethiopia’s momentous “Grand Renaissance Dam”. This dam in Ethiopia is the largest hydroelectric project in Africa and being built entirely without funding from the West. When completed, it will produce as much as 6,000 megawatts of power. The signed agreement addressed the rate at which the dam’s reservoir would be filled. Egypt and Sudan had serious concerns that if it were filled too fast the dam would create a devastating drought.
